Troopers Preview

Troopers

Troopers have not had any success in SASL for many years now, but they are hoping to change that in 2022. The key to their future success may hinge on adding rookie guests as there are no guest limits in SASL any longer. This small but drastic key change in the rules may unlock their full potential this year.

While Sunil Rangila has been running the team for years, this year he has Anthony DePalma alongside him at the helm. From what we have been hearing, Anthony has recruited a bunch of solid athletes that play in SAFL and will be transitioning into SASL for the first time. We are excited to see how these athletes perform and pick up the nuisances of playing softball.

They have also added some key veteran additions alongside the rookies. Names like Sid, Moiz, Faizan, Yash, etc bring a wealth of SASL experience and will give the rookies a very quick learning curve. Not to mention they also have SASL championship experience.

It has been a while since Troopers made the playoffs or avoided SNL. With 9 teams this year, everyone is assured of either making playoffs or playing the 1 game in SNL to make the playoffs. With that pressure off, can Troopers use the regular season to learn the ins and outs of SASL and bring a productive team in? Only time will tell and they have a dream matchup with DadBods in week 1 this Sunday to really hit the ground running.

3 Questions with Captain Anthony DePalma:

1) You have ascended to the captaincy for the Troopers along with Sunil. Can you introduce us to your new recruits and tell us what to expect out of the Troopers this year?

Most of the new guys are from SAFL, just solid athletes and good people.  Troopers are a team of good guys, we’re just sprinkling some athletes into the mix.  This is probably the first year we’ve had more than 12 people on a roster though, so the days of the Troopers playing with 8 people should be over lol. I’d expect us to be a middle of the pack team , close to .500 or just over. Maybe cause some headaches for the top 2/3 usual suspects in this league.

2) What do you expect to be your teams strength in 2022? And what aspect of your team you feel needs to be worked on?

Strengths: Contact hitters

Weakness: Limited power hitters

Defense: We can be above average, will take a few weeks to get positions ironed out but the talent is there.

3) With 56 point cap and 9 teams, how do you think the competition will be and who are your biggest threats?

I don’t know the names of the teams – same power teams as usual – Anwar and Hash’s lol
